[ geez, he always forgets what a temper quentin's got on him. the sleep deprivation can't help either, but watching that sweater fall sadly on the floor only to get insulted is new. ]
Nah. [ watching the outside while quentin does up the boots, a small shrug and a shake of his head. dismissive. ] Don't worry about it.
[ quentin's pretty solidly one of the only ones david knows would do the same if their situations were reversed. or he'd try to help at least, but he's not so sure the kid would be all that successful in any way that was actually helpful. ]
[ still, the hypothetical altruism isn't hypothetically unappreciated. ]
[ plus it really only benefits everyone if quentin's functional. unless someone gets chased off, those doors should be powered soon and somehow quentin gets them open faster than most. ]
Long as you get out of this one it means this little diversion was worth it.
[ Everyone often forgets about his temper until he’s throwing a fit. He ties the boot while actively glaring at it just because. Sleep deprivation does not, in fact, help you not be cranky. Once it seems like it’s not going anywhere he gets back up, tapping his toes against the wall to make sure. ]
You’re kind of the best, man.
[ David with his tough exterior that pulls absolutely insane moves like jumping out windows and going into trials already injured. He’ll call you stupid right to your face but keeps pulling through and asks for nothing back with a surprising gentleness. What a guy.
He moves next to him with easier but awkward steps, feeling sort of lopsided with oversized boots. It’s a bit like wading through water though and he’s got it. He’s hunched next to David, blowing on his hands ]
You build up a tolerance to this, right? I didn’t want to do the polar plunge into Erie but I should’ve. [ A hopeful question. Ormond exists in the cycle and now so does this. He’s not looking forward to it in the slightest.
Okay technically he’s not building up a tolerance to being impaled in the shoulder and everyone screams still so probably not but give him some good news.
He puts his arm out front of David and points at the ground, barely visible metal sticking out from the snow, ready to snatch them the second they leave. ]
Never really feel like my nips are gonna freeze off anymore if that's what you're asking.
[ he's hilarious. ]
[ david has thoughts on the clothes, the way the entity dresses them up for trials, but it's one of few things they actually seem able to adjust to. because david never gets any less afraid to die when he's on that hook, never gets used to the killers' attacks, but even wearing sunglasses on midwich doesn't really hamper him like it did the first time. ]
[ he shakes off those thoughts when quentin stops him stepping in a trap, and he nods his thanks. briefly considers disarming it but then decides it's better not to alert trapper to anything going on over here. ]
Nah. Not yet. [ on second thought this is a good spot for running the killer, the whole lodge is, so disarming the trap only benefits everyone and david kneels to do exactly that. ]
There's a gen between the information board and one of the exits, was most of the way when I left.
[ the obvious implication being that quentin better start moving that way the second that trap snaps shut. ]
Cool. That's a relief. I wasn't looking forward to having them be able to cut diamonds every fucking time.
[ Quentin says it, crossing his arms over his chest to, well, keep those warm. David's providing an interesting bit of new knowledge to him, since he's one of the only people here that wasn't privy to what it's like to have the Entity play dress up with them.
He nods, relieved the coast is clear and stares at David as he kneels down. ]
I- Okay. Okay. [ He shifts his feet in place, testing his ankle and taking a couple of whatever pills he stuffed in his pocket earlier, eyes scanning around them and settles on looking at the tall imposing muscular figure standing there outside, right to the side watching them. Hi Trapper. Insidious, huh? ]
UH- David. David, he's right there. [ There's an urgency to his tone. The killer holds up a hand and waves as the trap snaps shut. That's when it starts moving towards them. Again, louder- ] David! [ He's grabbing a handful of the back of the other's shirt as if he could pull him back to his feet that way. ]
[ standing and running would be the smart thing to do, that's for certain, but he's made a point mentally that he is going to get quentin out of this trial alive. so it's time to get a little reckless. ]
You go on. [ david stands, eyes on trapper, backs up a few steps so he's close to that pallet inside as that big bastard approaches. more importantly, making sure he's solidly between quentin and the killer. ] I'll catch you up at the gate, yeah?
[ Standing and running is the smart move. Standing and running is what he's trying to get David to do by tugging on him to move. ]
What? [ It's incredulous. He shouldn't be stupid. Quentin backs up too, since he was practically glued behind him, with quick uneven shuffling steps. He looks up at the pallet then at David and releases his grip on his shirt, backing up more so he wouldn't dare be in the way if that gets thrown down. ]
Are you fucking serious? [ This guy. David's squaring up to this seven-foot tall monstrosity of a man apparently. David King is insane. And he massively respects that. ] If you don't, I'm coming back for you. [ Less of a warning and more of a factual statement. ]
[ trapper hesitates, that moment most killers have where they're trying to judge if they can get to the survivor before they throw down the pallet. a mistake, really, because the hesitation makes it all the easier for david to judge the timing and slam it down on his head when he lunges. ]
[ man those stun noises are always so satisfying. ]
Good. Go!
[ he hisses at quentin, this close to shoving him if he doesn't move. david can probably keep trapper occupied a while, figures if most of his traps got used to bully quentin, there can't be many in chase routes. david's not some god-tier looper, but without his kit trapper's not that hot in a chase either. ]
[ Quentin's backing up further, quicker, while there's that moment of hesitation. He didn't turn around yet, watching watching-- when the pallet comes down Quentin let's out a loud: ]
HA!
[ Then turns to actually listen to David and make a run for it. Lingering and antagonizing Trapper while David is trying to take the attention off of him is not a good idea. Not one bit. He does an entirely awkward hop-step around the lodge as he goes through it, narrowly avoiding the trap right in front of the fireplace he noted had been there earlier. He exits through the opposite side. ]
