[ the thing about jeff is that he doesn't really care too much about what people think about him, both in general and in a more... intimate sense, but it didn't always used to be that way. when he was younger, a teenager and even a bit into his very early twenties, he gave a damn. people perceived him as intimidating when he was just - quiet, they saw him as stoic when he was just introverted. unattractive, because of the gnarly scar bisecting his left eye, his scattering of tattoos. it used to bother him, a little bit, being judged, but he learned to pour his attention in his time into other, less anxiety-triggering things.
but he's also changed a lot, from then to now. taller by far, and nowhere near as lean or as gangling as he used to be. softer. and he's fine with that, comfortable for the most part, even, but it's hard not to feel at least a little bit vulnerable in the moment. jeff likes david, a lot. it's hard not to think about whether david will still be as into him as he seems, now that he's seen more of him.
but jeff tries. he comes back to david and he focuses instead on the fact that for the first time in what feels like eternity at this point, he might get to sleep for a couple of hours in an actual bed. uninterrupted, if they're lucky. it takes jeff a few beats to figure out how exactly he wants to settle, but eventually he ends up on his side, nudged up close to david, and he puts an arm over him and his cheek on his shoulder. ]
